Access Description:
Park on Joy Street.  Walk to the end of Rogers Avenue.  There is a break in the concrete barrier at the end of the avenue.  Go down this small trail and turn right on a main trail.  Follow the trail 0.2 miles to the end where Indian Leap is located.
NOTE: People leave a lot of trash. If possible, please bring a plastic bag and help carry out trash even if it is not yours.

Mile 7.6 - Indian Orchard Dam Portage Take-Out
Take-Out Position:

Nearest Address: 53 Goddu Street, Ludlow, MA 01056
Portage Description:

Paddle down river to the dam barrier to river right.  Take out just above the barrier at trail.  Follow the trail around the dam and concrete barrier.  Follow the trail below the dam to a small cove where you can put-in on some rocks.  Poison Ivy is along the trail so use caution.
Road Access:
At the end of Goddu Street there is a small gate that you can walk through. Follow the trail to the dam where the Take-Out and Put-In is located above the barrier and below the dam.

Mile 6.1 to 6.9 - Former Monsanto Chemical Plant
Located on the south shore, river left, is the former Monsanto Chemical Plant.  The name was changed to Solutia and was soley owned by Monsanto.  In 2012 Eastman Chemical Company acquired the plant.  The site’s products are used for windshield weight reduction and reduced interior cabin noise for the automotive industry and for architectural use, offering a variety of benefits ranging from sound reduction to high impact hurricane protection.
QUESTION: Did Monsanto polute the river when it was still legal before the laws in the 1970s?
